What You Can Expect
As the Power Congestion Senior Advisor, you will provide fundamental market analytics that support congestion trading strategies within the ERCOT market. You will use production-cost, power-flow, optimization, statistical, and data-analysis tools to forecast nodal electricity prices, identify transmission constraints, and explain day-ahead and real-time congestion outcomes.
You will develop repeatable market views by evaluating load, weather, fuel prices, renewable generation, transmission limits, generation and transmission outages, bids, and other market fundamentals. Working closely with traders, asset managers, risk, compliance, IT, and other commercial stakeholders, you will translate complex grid and market information into clear trading insights, scenario analyses, and recommendations.
Reporting to the Head of Algorithm Power Trading, you will serve as a subject-matter expert on ERCOT congestion, participate in relevant ISO discussions, improve analytical tools and processes, and regularly compare model forecasts with actual market outcomes.
- Execute and maintain production-cost models, with an emphasis on Dayzer, and systematically evaluate and update model inputs
- Perform power-flow and transmission analyses using tools such as PSS®E, PowerWorld, MATPOWER, or equivalent platforms
- Develop and execute scenario studies that evaluate changes in load, weather, fuel prices, generation, renewable output, transmission limits, outages, and grid topology
- Forecast nodal electricity-price components and identify macro- and micro-fundamental drivers of day-ahead and real-time congestion
- Develop systematic and repeatable approaches for forming congestion-market views and selecting nodes based on forecasted congestion patterns
- Provide analytics supporting Financial Transmission Rights auctions, virtual markets, heat rates, spark spreads, and related power-market products
- Calibrate model results against actual market outcomes, identify model gaps, and implement appropriate solutions
- Develop and maintain dispatch, congestion, and power-flow models while communicating findings and market views to stakeholders
- Collaborate with traders, asset managers, risk, compliance, and IT teams to improve trading analyses, controls, processes, and tools
- Participate in relevant ISO meetings and assess the potential commercial impact of market-rule, transmission, and operational developments
