2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
|
|
Safety at Work
- Ensures a safe working environment for himself and his colleagues while working on any equipment;
- Participate in all safety programs
- Attend authorisation to take permit to work
- Ensures that there is a Permit to Work for each job as necessitated by the Plant HSE Procedures put in place;
- Ensures all necessary precautions are taken by himself and Contractors while undertaking any jobs in the Power Plant;
- Ensures that all necessary tools are available to ensure the safe working on equipment and used during the performance on all jobs at the Plant;
- Points out any unsafe conditions to the Electrical Engineer.
Engineering responsibilities:
Leadership
- Supporting in managing all maintenance activities associated with defect and planned maintenance programmes, through a team of technicians and at times by external contract agencies.
- Perform stand-in / acting duties as required
Compliance
- Day to day plant efficient management of maintenance activities, according to good utility practice, company rules and procedures, legal, contractual and other requirements.
Analytical thinking & Problem solving
- Participate in the facility QA/QC, Root Cause Analysis Program;
Resource Planning
- Determines and schedules the manpower, tools and spares requirements for each maintenance activity
- Support the Engineer in administering the Preventative Maintenance Program for the plant
Maintenance Task Planning and Execution
- Completes all Work Orders generated in Maximo/SAP as directed by the Engineer;
- Generates reports (mainly log sheets/check sheets) as necessary for the maintenance done;
- Ensures that maintenance of all equipment is in accordance with OEM Manuals for the equipment;
- Reviews Maintenance Procedures and suggests improvements;
- Works to his full potential and does high quality work.
Equipment Failure Trouble Shooting and Repair
- Supports reliable and accessible 24-hour call-out functionality;
- Perform Standby duties
- Lead assigned plant equipment failure investigations, compile Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports
- Attempts all possible means of reducing equipment downtime and ensuring high Plant availability;
- Performs troubleshooting activities as necessary along with the Electrical Engineer and colleagues to determine failure conditions and rectifies the defects found;
- Record and compile reports to the Engineer on all rectification jobs undertaken;
- Works with Plant Operations Personnel for resolving problems encountered with equipment under the guidance of the Engineer.
Reporting and Planning
- Discuss planned and unplanned jobs undertaken with the Electrical Engineer;
- Plan daily jobs as required
- Plan, risk assess and schedule all work orders and maintain a monthly planned schedule
Tools
- Ensures necessary tooling is available at work sites during performance on any job;
- Uses correct tools for each job;
- Reports loss of tools or damage to any tools to the Electrical Engineer;
- Informs the Engineer of any requirements for tools;
- Ensures that tools are in good working order.
Ownership
- Assumes ownership of plant electrical equipment or any assigned equipment and strives to keep them in the best possible condition.
- Attend relevant assigned training as required
- Follow applicable competency matrix and development plans
- Perform any other legitimate activity as requested by Electrical Engineer or Maintenance Manager

3. HEALTH & SAFETY:

- The Job Holder will work in a controlled hazardous environment.
Work Levels and Conditions and Risks:
- Work Level 4: the tasks that he/she performs as part of their daily work activities represent a risk of accidents of medium kind that can generate permanent consequences (burns, mutilations, irreversible wounds);
Exposure to Risks:
- Traffic risks, ergonomic risks;
- Risks inherent to the job of the Lead Electrical Technician while performing inspections, site visits and executing works, etc.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Hard hat/safety helmet;
- Ear protection (plugs or ear muffs);
- Safety glasses;
- Safety shoes;
- Cotton work wear;
- Safety Gloves;
Recommended HPE (Health Protection Equipment):
- Ergonomic office equipment;

4. MODUS OPERANDI:
|
- The Job Holder works as Lead Electrical Technician reporting to the Electrical Engineer.
|
|
6. COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
|
|
The Job Holder will work and communicate with:
- Internal: Avon and Dedisa Power plants, Finance, Administration, Operations, Health, Safety and Environment;
- External: Other Contractual Counterparties, Contractors, Suppliers, Equipment Manufacturers and Vendors.
|
|
7. FRAMEWORKS, BOUNDARIES AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:
|
- Operates within the approved budgetary limits and assigned authorities;
|
|
8. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
|
|
Essential Qualifications:
- An accredited Engineering (Electrical) Degree/Diploma
- Registration as Professional Engineering Technician or eligible to register as Pr Tech/Techni Eng
- Power Engineering (Heavy Current) an added advantage – control and utilization of electrical energy, power electronics.
|
|
Experience:
- At least 8-10 year experience in the maintenance of a large power plants, 3 of which must have been in the capacity of a Technician
- Use of safety systems
- Use of computerized maintenance management systems
- Experience in electrical fault finding.
- Ability to read, interpret and analyze electrical drawings, etc.
- Experience in the inspection, maintenance and repair of major equipment (motor, transformers, generators, switchgear, etc)
- Operational plant or construction site experience is an advantage.

Remuneration:
