Context

EEA has a number of strategic projects that require short-term consultants to support. Some of these are with an immediate start, others will be commenced over the coming months. We are therefore seeking expressions of interest from independent contractors with experience and capabilities in strategy and operations to support on various projects.

Job Purpose

The General Strategy & Operations Consultant is responsible for leading and managing strategic projects that drive organisational improvements and operational efficiency. The projects will involve identifying opportunities for enhancements across the organisation, developing strategic solutions, and ensuring their successful implementation through effective project management. The consultant will play a key role in aligning project outcomes with business objectives to deliver sustainable growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Strategic Projects: Oversee and manage strategic projects aimed at improving operational workflows, optimising expenditures, and enhancing overall organisational performance.
  • Facilitate Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders to align strategic projects with overall business objectives and secure support for proposed changes.
  • Analyse Organisational Processes: Conduct in-depth reviews of existing processes to identify inefficiencies and potential enhancements.
  • Implement Best Practices: Introduce and champion the adoption of industry-leading practices and innovative solutions to refine operational structures.
  • Track Performance Metrics: Set up and monitor key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies on organisational efficiency.
  • Deliver Strategic Reports: Compile and present comprehensive reports detailing strategy recommendations, performance impacts, and future action plans to senior management.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Proven Expertise: A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in strategy consulting, with a strong focus on project management and driving operational improvements.
  • Strong strategy and planning capability, with knowledge of core strategy and planning frameworks, but also ability to solve any problem from first principles
  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to develop meaningful relationships with internal stakeholders (especially other Global HoDs and CDs) and external stakeholders (e.g. partners, suppliers, funders, government, etc.)
  • Exceptional judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to independently assess situations, and take appropriate action to achieve results
  • Significant people leadership experience, leading cross-functional teams across countries to achieve project goals
  • Strong project management capability and a strong ability to lead a project through from concept, to framing, structuring, design and execution
  • Strong ability to leverage data analytics to identify insights, then build action plans and execute against them
  • English is mandatory, with French, Portuguese or Swahili a plus
