You will provide technical leadership to project teams, ensure quality and compliance of engineering deliverables, mentor engineers, and coordinate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to deliver safe, sustainable, and cost-effective structural solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Structural Design & Analysis:
- Lead Structural Design Activities: Lead the design and review of structures such as dams, barrages, spillways, intakes, surge shafts, powerhouses, machine foundations, hydraulic tunnels, and other facilities specific to hydropower projects.
- Load Analysis: Oversee and perform detailed structural analyses considering water pressure, seismic activity, crane loads, wind loads, thermal effects, construction loads, and other operational conditions.
- Material Selection: Provide guidance on the selection of appropriate construction materials (concrete, steel, and composite materials) based on project requirements, durability, cost, and environmental conditions.
- Structural Stability: Ensure the stability, safety, strength, serviceability, and long-term durability of structures under normal and extreme loading conditions, including floods and earthquakes.
- Design Review & Verification: Review and approve structural calculations, design reports, drawings, and engineering documents prepared by team members.
2. Technical Evaluation & Review:
- Lead and perform structural analysis, modelling, and design of hydropower infrastructure, including dams, spillways, penstocks, intake structures, surge shafts, tunnels, and powerhouses.
- Guide the development and review of finite element analysis (FEA) models and advanced structural simulations.
- Conduct and review seismic, hydrodynamic, dynamic, and soil-structure interaction analyses to evaluate structural performance and safety.
- Ensure compliance with relevant international codes, client specifications, and project standards.
- Participate in technical reviews, value engineering studies, risk assessments, and design optimization initiatives.
3. Hydropower Projects:
- Lead the design of foundation systems considering geotechnical parameters and soil-structure interaction effects.
- Assess and review the structural integrity of hydraulic structures, including tunnels, surge shafts, gates, and water-retaining structures.
- Coordinate closely with hydrologists, hydraulic engineers, geotechnical engineers, BIM teams, and other disciplines to achieve integrated engineering solutions.
- Provide technical support during project execution, construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health & safety, and regulatory requirements throughout project delivery.
- Support proposal development and provide technical inputs for bids and tenders.
4. Team Leadership, Reporting & Documentation:
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to structural engineers and designers within the Hydropower Product team.
- Allocate and monitor engineering tasks to ensure timely and quality delivery of project milestones.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical reports, structural calculations, design basis reports, methodologies, and design justifications.
- Conduct technical presentations and represent the structural discipline in meetings with clients, contractors, consultants, and government agencies.
- Promote knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and engineering best practices across the team.
Your Profile
- You hold a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from a reputed institute with a minimum of 12 to 18 years of professional experience.
- Proven experience leading structural design and engineering activities for hydropower and water infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in structural design software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ANSYS, Abaqus, ETABS, and MIDAS.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools, and GIS applications.
- Strong understanding of concrete, steel, and composite material behaviour.
- Experience with numerical modelling for dynamic, hydrodynamic, seismic, and soil-structure interaction analyses.
- Working knowledge of international design codes and standards applicable to hydropower and hydraulic structures.
- Experience in mentoring engineering teams and coordinating multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
Special Attributes
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare, review, and present technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
