3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
|
The key responsibilities of General Accountant will be, but not limited to, the following:
Master Data Management:
- Maintain master data so the booking can be done properly (General/Accounting ledger, Fixed Asset MD, Chart of Accounts, currency, document types and other core attributes of accounting),
- Manager the finance master data processes at ENGIE Group level
- Carry periodic reviews of the master data, in line with Data Standards set by the Data Owner (ENGIE Group Finance)
General Accounting:
- Responsible for processing all journal entries into relevant ledgers and submission to the General Accounting Manager for review in a timely manner.
- Review and collaborate with the fixed asset accountant on the calculation preparation of the decommission provision /impairments /Profit and loss. (The final sign off is with General accounting manager and lastly HOA)
- Review and collaborate with the financial operations accountant on the calculation preparation of the ECL calculations (The final sign off is with General accounting manager and lastly HOA)
- Any adhoc technical calculations aligned to IFRS would be expected to be performed by the general accountant, with the support of the Statutory Specialist.
- On a monthly basis, process all relevant transactions in the general ledger with special note on overdue items and making appropriate disclosures to the General Accounting Manager.
- Process all intercompany transactions into the appropriate ledgers in a timely manner, maintenance entries are undertaken as required
- Responsible for ensuring timeous and accurate period-end close (month-end/ year-end}
- Perform monthly, quarterly, annual end balance sheet reconciliation and review
- Ensure the integrity of the balance sheet by preparing general ledger balance sheet reconciliations, investigate and report on financial discrepancies and overdue items.
- Support the Statutory Specialist in the completion and submission of all relevant statutory and regulatory returns performed by the accounting team.
- Perform lntercompany reconciliations
- Execute escalation process to support effective service delivery
- Ensure compliance with all relevant IFRS and Engie adopted accounting policies.
- Assist in the preparation of the KPI reports
- Create, update and complete SOP's process documents
- Support deadline management
- Follow up and ensure that audit requests are submitted
- Focus on recording, completeness and measurement of all transactions
- Ensure controls are adhered to and executed
Ad hoc SMART reporting month-end support:
- Prepare and submit accurate and timeous monthly SMART uploads to support the statutory team when required.
- Ensure support on abnormalities or unusual transactions are communicated to the statutory team before month end close.
- All new COA created on any of the ERP must be timeously communicated before month end to the statutory team to update SMART COA.

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
|
Education
- National Diploma or BComm Degree in Accounting/Financial Management
- Qualified accountant with additional relevant qualifications
Language
- English: excellent communication skills spoken, written and verbal.
IT
- Must have a high degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Enterprise Resource Planning applications (Maximo/SAP or equivalent)
Experience
- At least 5 year experience in the accounting preferably of a large combined cycle power plant, 3 of which must have been in the capacity of a Senior accountant
- Knowledge of both IFRS as required and applied to the IPP business
- Knowledge of the main database platforms used - (SAP, MS Office)
- Used to working within a multi-cultural environment
- Knowledge SPVs within a multinational business environment
- Proven delegation skills and able to create a work climate where people are empowered to take action
- Excellent communication skills, capability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels
- Ability to act independently to prioritize, initiate, resolve and complete actions required to take the business forward to meet goals
- Interaction with operations, maintenance, administration and HSE
