What You Can Expect
As our Electrician II, at The Ohio State University, with the supervision of the High Voltage Manager & Supervisor, you will be responsible for performing duties as a highly skilled electrician in the installation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of low, medium, and high voltage to 138,000-volt class electrical generation and distribution systems and equipment. You will report to the High Voltage Supervisor.
You will:
- Assist Utility Electrician III or High Voltage Electricians with operation, installation, removal, cleaning, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of 15,000 and 138,000-volt class equipment consisting of underground cable vaults, cable duels, cable racks, cables, splices, terminations, equipment grounding, surge arresters, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, motors; assist with distribution system switching
- Serve as crew leader; instruct lower staff on work to be performed; assist in training other personnel
- Direct and inspect contractor work in the installation of permanent and temporary power sources, inspects and monitors new electrical construction work for design standard and electrical safety requirements; direct and perform preventive maintenance and overhaul of electrical equipment in utility plants
- Perform equipment lockout/tagout; uses test equipment (multi-amp, strobe lights, probe, megaohm meter, hi-pot) to remedy and prevent problems
- Overhaul motors and replace bearings; operate cranes and/or lift vehicles to move electrical equipment; maintain substation battery banks, wiring systems, annunciator panels, 3-phase meters and circuit protective relays
- Read blueprints, electrical diagrams, technical manuals; update drawings and schematics, and design equipment, such as transformer tables, battery rack, and star cart to perform tasks; maintain records, reports, and perform other related duties.
- Plan jobs, order materials, inspect and diagnosis cable and equipment faults; troubleshoot electrical units by reviewing blueprints and schematics in order to develop a remedy; work on and troubleshoot any ENGIE operated utility systems including plants and distribution
- Complete other duties as assigned by management related to safe plant operations, maintenance, reliability, and training while fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion
What You’ll Bring
- You will have minimum high school diploma or equivalent education
- Must have completed electrical apprenticeship
- A minimum two (2) years’ work experience working in a commercial/ industrial electrical environment
Additional Details
- This role requires attendance at a works site on a daily basis
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; will drive company vehicle onsite
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- This position consists of 50% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
- Familiarity with computer software such as Microsoft office
- You have knowledge of basic principles of electricity and related terminology
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematic wiring diagrams and volt-ohm-amp testers
- You have worked in high voltage electrical environments where you have been responsible for troubleshooting equipment and performed schedule maintenance
Compensation
Hourly: $33.41 to $51.41 USD
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
