Job Purpose:

To undertake a variety of tasks relating to setting up and maintaining electrical assets. Responsibilities involve maintenance of electrical system & troubleshooting .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components
  • Good knowledge of MCB / MCCB / ACB & Capacitor banks
  • Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.

Skills Required:

  • Color vision. Electricians must identify electrical wires by color.
  • Critical-thinking skills. Electricians perform tests and use the results to diagnose problems. For example, when an outlet is not working, they may use a multimeter to check the voltage, amperage, or resistance to determine the best course of action.
  • Customer-service skills. Electricians work with people on a regular basis. As a result, they should be friendly and be able to address customers’ questions.
  • Troubleshooting skills. Electricians find, diagnose, and repair problems.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an electrician
  • Experience in Residential and/or commercial electrical systems
  • Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent physical condition and flexibility to work long shifts and overnight
  • Diploma in relevant vocational training or successfully completed apprenticeship as an electrician
