Context:

The Expertise Center Market Analysis (EC MA) gathers more than 110 experts in energy markets and quantitative economics. Our team includes market analysts, meteorologists, data scientists, regulation & market design advisors providing comprehensive support to ENGIE entities (Corporate, GBUs, GEMS Business Platforms and geographies). The purpose of the EC MA is to target superior energy market intelligence, building independent economic analyses and providing regulatory positions to support ENGIE activities, from strategic positioning, investment appraisal, operation excellence and energy management.

The Business Platform Short-Term Gas is in charge of providing delivery optimization services to Engie’s physical gas portfolio. Within Short-Term Gas BP, the Physical Risk Team (PRT) ensures the gas demand of ENGIE’s customers can be met under different scenarios reflecting uncertainties on gas consumption or delivery, such as weather impact or a supplier's shortfall, in line with ENGIE’s public service obligations, from day-ahead up to 3 years. The team also provides a consolidated view of ENGIE’s supply and demand portfolio to S&EM ExCom, in order to monitor our supply gap and enable the sourcing of potentially missing volumes.

Role:

The Expertise Center Market Analysis and the Business Platform Short-Term Gas are looking for a physical risk analyst to join the Physical Risk Team and help support and develop our analytics activities.

The role is located in Paris, on the trading floor.

This role will require the candidate to perform the following:

-        In close cooperation with S&EM gas trading desks, portfolio managers, sales support and other teams, ensure the timely execution of the team’s operational activities:

o    Check that the gas asset management strategies in place within S&EM are compatible with the sourcing of ENGIE’s customers in case of occurrence of defined physical risk factors; if not, make them evolve. Will this scenario allow to face an occurrence of peak gas demand, for instance?

o    Propose optimal management strategies for assets facing physical risk. How to modify the management of our assets to extract more value while being able to face a cold spell at minimal cost?

o    Define limits of assets’ use to face physical risk. To what extent can we optimize storages or supply contracts in the coming weeks, without compromising continuity of gas supply for the following period?

-        Contribute to sizing the assets required for physical risk management: storage and transport capacities, supply contracts and other sources of flexibility;

-        Maintain the physical risk framework up-to-date, including liquidity assumptions for European gas markets, the relation between temperature and gas demand, regulatory changes;

-        Analyze ENGIE’s gas portfolio balance for specific needs, related e.g. to intraday flexibility requirements;

-        Contribute to regulatory inquiries on gas security of supply;

-        Support other S&EM teams on gas physical risk-related questions;

-        Improve our tools and model assumptions, in collaboration with quants and IT teams;

-        Contribute to European gas supply/demand equilibrium modelling with dedicated tools.
