Context

This internship takes place within the Quantitative Data Analysts team, which supports the B2C and B2B France Business Units in managing risks related to energy supply.

As part of the Business Platform Downstream quantitative analyst community, the intern may also contribute to transversal projects impacting other commercial entities.

 

Your Mission

As an intern, you will participate in innovative projects involving forecasting models and data generation techniques, including:

1. Forecast Explainability

  • Contribute to the development or enhancement of methods designed to explain and visualize the behavior of forecasting models, with objectives such as:
  • Comparing different forecasts
  • Identifying and quantifying root causes of discrepancies
  • Improving transparency and interpretability

2. Time-Series Completion with Deep Learning / GenAI

  • Help improve a model that aims to:
  • Complete missing consumption time-series using existing data and customer features
  • Generate full consumption time-series when data is unavailable
  • Produce realistic and consistent data for forecasting purposes

Daily Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, development, and delivery of quantitative models and tools
  • Work with large datasets to ensure accurate representation
  • Promote coding and data best practices (versioning, quality, standards)
  • Collaborate with analysts and data scientists across BP Downstream
  • Provide scientific insight to B2C & B2B France teams on the impact of model developments

 

What we are looking for

Hard skills

Must Have

  • Strong scientific foundation: probability, statistics, data science, machine learning
  • Knowledge of time-series forecasting methods
  • Strong proficiency in Python and associated tools (Git, etc.)
  • Interest in data manipulation and operational analytics
  • Practical, hands-on mindset
  • Ability to take initiative and challenge the status quo
  • Strong communication skills, especially explaining technical topics to non-experts

Nice to Have

  • Interest in energy markets and the energy transition
  • Experience with modern data platforms (Databricks, Spark, etc.)

 

Soft skills

  • Strong planning and organizational skills

Education & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program (Year 1 or 2) in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Physics
  • Previous experience in model development (through internships or projects) is a plus
  • Knowledge of electricity or gas markets is appreciated

 

Languages

  • Fluent in English
