a Category Manager
IT Hardware & Telecommunications (M/F)
Position based in Courbevoie (92)

 

IT Hardware and Telecommunications equipment category represents an annual expenditure of approximately 135 million euros. It covers several sub-categories, some of which are entirely global with a global market and global players, while others involve more local specificities.

The Category Manager manages 1 Global Lead Buyer. He/She reports to the Group Category Director in charge of IT, Digital and Customer Relations Management categories.

 

The Category Manager:

  • Has a Group mandate to manage one or more procurement categories, to ensure an optimal economic, operational and CSR performance to drive sustainable business
  • Designs and executes a strategy for Group categories in alignment with Group priorities and senior stakeholders (C-level and E-level)
  • Leads, animates, develops a multidisciplinary and multi-location team/network related to the Group categories in charge, across Procurement Line, Business, Support Function as needed
  • Is accountable for applying the “Manage the Category” Process
  • based on his/her understanding of business risks, recommends how category strategies can be used to manage these risks

 

 

Detailed responsibilities

 

Define the strategy for the relevant procurement category in alignment with business priorities

 

  • Understand the value of external market intelligence and how to acquire and integrate into category strategies to enable planning and decision-making.
  • Develop a category-specific expertise in supply market trends, key suppliers, evolving technologies, internal requirements and objectives of stakeholders, spending patterns, and category value levers
  • Translate the company's business objectives and global procurement strategy into a value statement and roadmap for categories, including sustainability
  • Deliver customer-centric results by managing relationships, identifying needs, and maintaining desired levels of internal and external stakeholder satisfaction
  • Capture and Challenge operational requirements: focus on understanding and reducing consumption, complexity, or variability of a product or service and to find substitutes and simplify / rationalize specifications to reduce total cost
  • Define category strategies, governance to allow decision-making, short-mid-long-term plans, in collaboration with Heads of procurement from respective GBUs
  • Secure supply chain resilience and transparency with supplier Tier 1 and Tier 2
  • Select relevant metrics to pilot the implementation across the company
  • Assess the level of risks and criticality of categories
  • Define the category procurement policy
  • Devise a procurement strategy capitalizing on all cost-reduction levers (with help from the Category Team)
  • Ensure the support of management (Purchasing and Business) during the strategy development and implementation phases
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and technological aspects and predicts those elements likely to affect his/her scope

 

 

 Deploy the action plan to implement category strategies across the Group

 

  • Develop and maintain category strategies
  • Lead and animate a multidisciplinary category team in a worldwide environment
  • Enforce and drive the implementation of the Category procurement policy across the company, having in mind the goal to streamline and digitalize the P2P process
  • Oversee Procurement actions based on the devised strategy, in particular calls for tenders for the selection of preferred suppliers and negotiations on behalf of Group entities
  • Structure a methodology for quantifying the evaluation and selection of suppliers. Understand each step of the strategic sourcing process and the tools and templates that are leveraged throughout a sourcing project
  • Remain the key point of contact related to the category procurement policy, supplier panel and executed agreements

 

Manage supplier relations and streamline the supplier panel

 

  • Select strategic suppliers in alignment with business priorities
  • Manage relationships to drive value and build long-term relationships with strategic partners
  • Ensure continuous improvement in the performance of suppliers for his/her category in association with the relevant Global Lead Buyers / Category Lead Buyers
  • Identify innovative ways to improve capabilities, increase productivity, and drive profitable growth with suppliers
  •  
  • Manage supplier risks for his/her category and associated actions plans, in collaboration with procurement network
  • Highlight business risks and how category strategies can be used to manage these risks. Assess and prioritize risks for a particular supply market and develop mitigating strategies to manage high priority risk drivers.
  • Manage contract and handle major disputes and/or claims with preferred suppliers

 

Deliver Procurement performance targets

 

Oversee analyses enabling the identification of cost-reduction opportunities to support a performance plan. Contribute to create a budget derived from a higher-level plan, including the details of how to best meet upcoming objectives, understanding forecasting processes and how to drive greater accuracy. Provide insights to develop savings methodologies and reconcile to financial results. Analyze supplier financial statements for insights into capabilities and performance.

  •  Set category performance targets, including sustainability targets, across the organization and monitor the metrics
  • Gauge the economic impact and performance gains of signed contracts or agreements and oversee their proper consolidation as part of performance reporting

 

Main core competencies

  • You have at least 10 years of professional experience and a solid expertise in international procurement
  • You have international experience in defining and implementing global category purchasing strategies
  • You have a proven track record in IT & Digital to understand the specificities of the category
  • You are recognized for your leadership and ability to federate and create synergies
  • You develop a culture of performance, you know how to propose levers to improve performance and create value
  • You have leadership skills to motivate work teams, driving results and recognizing successes
  • You are able to quickly identify the needs of your stakeholders thanks to your analytical, synthesis and critical capabilities
  • You are recognized for your project management skills (rigor, structuring/prioritization, planning)
  • Autonomous, curious, organized, you excel in negotiation
  • Good communicator, you have very good interpersonal skills with people of different levels and cultures
  • You are fluent English - any other language is a plus
  • Good knowledge of office package (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
