RENEWABLE GASES EUROPE (RGE) is ENGIE’s business entity responsible for the development of renewable gases production in Europe. ENGIE is determined to become a leading player in 1G biomethane in Europe. The ambition is to grow rapidly to reach 10 TWh/y of biomethane production capacity. In Europe biomethane production projects are already in operation in France, UK, the Netherlands and Belgium. Projects are currently under development in these countries, in Spain and in Poland. The strategy is to develop projects through a mix of greenfield and M&A projects with biomethane grid injection. Synergies within the Group will be a key lever to develop, in particular with ENGIE’s Energy supply business unit (SEM) for the offtake of biomethane.

Mission and Purpose of the position

The Business Development Management Officer (BDM Officer) contributes to the business development process, supervises a portfolio of development projects, and coordinates the business development community.

Your main activities

Portfolio Management and BD Performance :

  • Management of the portfolio of projects in development including regular portfolio reviews with the BD teams in each country. Analysis of projects under development to ensure selectivity based on RGE technical and economic standards.
  • Ensure that existing tools (GEMA, PROCORE, GROW) are regularly updated with consistent information (e.g. dates of committees, COD, production target, archiving of key documentation …).
  • Management of lookback analyses and benchmarks of projects, in collaboration with BD and Operation teams, to update RGE’s business development guidelines

 

Management System and Governance : 

  • Implementation and compliance with the internal governance process, for each decision taken on development projects from origination to final investment decision and closing. Organize and plan the relevant decision committees (at both RGE and GBU levels). Prepare decision statements for validation and distribution and archive key documentation.
  • Prepare such validation committees with BD teams, experts and / or GBU Networks’ Investment Oversight as needed, to validate project progress and compliance with RGE’s Business Guidelines to facilitate decision-making. Definition of the necessary standards and templates to ensure consistency and quality when presenting projects for decision.
  • Traceability of investment decisions including archiving of key documentation incl. decision notes, assumptions books, decision statements, business plans and economic models, closing memos, etc.

 

Budget management and MTP :

  • Management of the Medium Term Plan (MTP), Quarterly Business Review and annual budget processes for the development activity, in connection with the BD Teams in each country.
  • Monitoring of the DEVEX budget in connection with the Performance Division.

 

Transversal activities :

  • Take in charge support activities for the BD process such as : definition of new procedures, development of project management culture within the BD teams, contribution to IT projects dedicated to BD activities…,
  • Support on strategic studies (for example biomethane price scenarios) or partnership projects with external stakeholders,
  • Organize and plan meetings for the BD community to reinforce collaboration and the sharing of experiences between countries: annual seminar, training sessions, webinar…

The position is based in France (Paris area). Business trips will be required on an ad-hoc basis to European countries where RGE is developing

 

Candidate profile

  • 5 years or more of experience in finance, business development and/or business development oversight in the energy sector with a focus on renewable energies. Experience in biomethane is a plus;
  • Strong capability in financial analysis and economic modelling; Strong capability to analyze projects and business plans.
  • Strong capability to work in a transversal mode and interact with other entities of an organization;
  • Ability to collaborate in project mode within cross-functional working groups
  • Strong listening and communication skills, you know how to interact effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Rigorous, structured and methodical. Constructive mindset and performance driven.
  • Good skills with standard office software and data management
  • Fluent in French and English
