GEMS (Global Energy Management & Sales) is a Business Division of the ENGIE group, with approximately 3300 people (Sales, Trader, Risks, dedicated support functions: Back-Office, Middle Office & IT).

Active on the energy market  (financial and physical commodity trading ), GEMS provides the group and its external counterparties with the following services:

Within the “Information System” Expertise Center, CTM Solutions (Contract and Transaction Management) is building and maintaining the suite of systems and tools that allow GEMS to partake in its trading activities. Covering a wide range of activities (from Booking to Post Trade), and the full gamut of commodities (PPA, Power Asset, Gas Asset, Long Term Contract, Full Supply Contract, Biomass, LNG, OTC Exotic and Vanilla, Market Operations, etc…), CTM has been actively modernizing the IS landscape in recent years, through the replacement of its legacy trading platforms (“Meteor” and Sungard “Zynet”) by Orchestrade.


The Trading Surveillance IS Team (a part of the broader Risk & Pnl IS team) is developing and supporting the “Market Abuse Detection” platform at the core of GEMS fraud detection obligations.

YOUR contribution


The Trading Surveillance IS Team (a part of the broader Risk & Pnl IS team) is developing and supporting the “Market Abuse Detection” platform (MAD) at the core of GEMS fraud detection obligations.


We are looking for a Data Architect / Tech Lead that will help structure the team effort towards modernizing/improving the MAD platform, making it a truly BigData solution and empowering the Risk officers in their analytical journeys.


Machine learning being all the rage these days, the data architect will have an opportunity to suggest and design new algorithms that really benefit the business.


Leading by example and acting as a Deputy to the IS MAD Team Lead, the IS MAD Data Architect / Tech Lead will define the target technology architecture/stack and guide IS MAD in improving its cloud strategy (Azure/AWS).


With his/her astute knowledge of the business processes and requirements, the Data Architect / Tech Lead will be a key partner of the business users (the Trading Surveillance team) and help them delivering their roadmap.

Key missions

  • Small/medium project management : Define the technical architecture proposal with the team lead and participate in its prioritization with stakeholders.
  • Define and implement the data governance (roles and responsibilities)
  • Gather Market Intelligence in the area of machine-learning applied to fraud detection
  • Onboard new developers, operationally lead the development team, strengthen their skills
  • Facilitate discussions/training on technical topics with developers to challenge them, foster team spirit and collaboration
  • Ensure the quality of deliveries in accordance with the guidelines
  • Manage the technical delivery of the team while contributing to code on a daily basis
  • Be a referent in terms of code and its quality, implement and maintain documentation about good practices (architecture, infrastructure, tests, implementation, …)
  • Identify possible areas of synergy, mutualization between MAD and other teams : community management, sharing of good/innovative practices with other teams, ….

Hard skills

  1. Must have:
    • Excellent knowledge on technical and applicative architectures, with a strong appetite for modern frameworks.
    • Fluency in object-oriented languages and DBs (C#, SQL Server)
    • Prior experience with distributed bigdata frameworks / ETL (Scala, Spark, Python)
  2. Good to have:
    1. Application Lifecycle Management
    2. Prior experience with Cloud technology (Azure, AWS…)
  3. Nice to have:
    1. Good knowledge on commodities or energy products.

Education and professional background

  • Master’s degree in engineering with a proven specialty in IT or equivalent.
