As our Senior Controls Engineer, you will support and maintain critical industrial control systems across utility and power generation assets, with primary focus on the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at The Ohio State University.
This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving control systems including PLCs, distributed control systems (DCS), industrial networks, and historian platforms. The position requires a self-directed engineer capable of supporting real-time operations, commissioning activities, and long-term system reliability.
This position participates in on-call rotation and may require support outside normal business hours. This role will report to the Automation Manager.
You will:
- Support day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems across CHP and utility assets
- Maintain and optimize Rockwell PlantPAx DCS, Allen-Bradley PLCs, and FactoryTalk applications
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and field instrumentation
- Support commissioning, startup, and system integration activities
- Maintain historian systems (eDNA, AVEVA PI), ensuring data integrity and interface reliability
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, IT/OT teams, and third-party vendors
- Support industrial network infrastructure (switches, firewalls, protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC)
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and ENGIE OT policies
- Develop and maintain technical documentation (control narratives, network diagrams, configurations)
- Identify and implement system improvements to enhance reliability and performance
- This role requires an associates degree in Electrical/Electronics or Controls with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience or in lieu of an associates degree; a High School diploma with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience
Additional Details
- This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 10% of the time
- Must be willing to participate in on-call rotations and may require support outside normal business hours
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license; may drive company vehicle
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- This position consists of 20% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and lead complex controls issues
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and FactoryTalk suite
- Experience with Rockwell PlantPAx or equivalent (PCS7, Ovation)
- Experience in power generation, utilities, or mission-critical industrial environments
- Understanding of industrial networking and OT systems
- Experience with historian platforms (eDNA, AVEVA PI)
- Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity practices
- Ability to work in industrial plant environments (heat, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to climb ladders and access industrial equipment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Compensation
Salary Range: $145,000 – $160,000 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
