In this internship you get the chance to contribute to the transition of ENGIE’s French hydro short-term optimization processes toward algorithmic trading strategies. ENGIE is accelerating the digitalization of its French hydro short term optimization processes, including the management of yearly, monthly, and weekly reservoirs in the Pyrenees and Massif Central. To support this transition toward automated and algorithmic decision-making, new bidding processes and algo based trading strategies will be developed.
Therefore we are currently looking for An intern in Algorithmic trading strategies (Hydropower)!
YOUR CHALLENGE as An intern in Algorithmic trading strategies:
- The student will design and implement Python based bidding strategies for several power markets (Day Ahead, Intraday auctions, and Intraday continuous).
- You will be in charge of algorithm design, prototyping, backtesting, and integration within ENGIE’s existing IT landscape.
- The ultimate goal is to produce solutions that can be used operationally.
YOUR PROFILE as An intern in Algorithmic trading strategies:
- You are a final master-year student in Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or Engineering and need to fulfill an internship/master thesis as part of your studies.
- You are interested in the field of data and optimization and have a good first experience in data analytics or applied Machine Learning or numerical modeling, including relevant Python libraries.
- You are passioned about the energy sector and while not strictly required, an understanding of European power markets is considered a significant advantage.
- You’re fluent in Dutch or French and can communicate in English.
- You are mobile and able to come to our headquarter in ENGIE Tower Brussels (Simon Bolivarlaan 36, 1000 Brussel).
Important note: ENGIE is moving, as from 1st of November 2026 our head office will officially become on 2 Avenue Anspach, 1000 Brussels.
- Possible starting date: flexible, but the earliest starting from 1st of September 2026.
- Duration of internship: flexible, 3 months minimum.
- No remuneration included since this is part of your education. We do offer compensation of your mobility tickets from home to work.
