Your mission  

The "Core and Fuel Studies" Group is responsible for activities related to the fuel cycle, core design, safety evaluation and operational support for nuclear reactors for the Belgian Utility.  The following activities are covered by the Core and Fuel group:

• Core Physics: fuel safety, core design, fuel cycle analyses for standard PWR or fast SMR reactors
• Core Multiphysics: code coupling, transient safety analyses
• Neutronic studies: criticality, shielding, activation, fuel characterization

Your key responsibilities  

For the Core Physics activity, you will be in charge of core design, reload safety verification, fuel safety analyses for the Belgian nuclear power plants and/or the SMR fast reactors.  

• Performing engineering studies in the field of core and fuel physics using simulation codes (deterministic or monte-carlo codes)
• Performing in-core fuel management strategy and conducting fuel cycle analyses
• Verifying the cycle safety as regards the core neutronics, fuel and thermal-hydraulic aspects
• Participating in R&D Projects related to Core Physics applications
• Writing Engineering and synthesis reports of your analyzes

 
We would love to hear from people with  
 

• You are a civil or industrial engineer, specialized in nuclear energy, physics or electromechanics, or B.Sc. in physics.  Practical experience in core physics calculations is an asset.
• You have a good theoretical background in nuclear systems, thermal-hydraulics, core physics phenomena and/or neutronics.
• You are interested in the technical knowledge of various disciplines of Core Physics (in particular neutronics but also thermal-hydraulics, nuclear fuel thermomechanics).
• You have proficiency in IT and Artificial Intelligence techniques for engineering applications (with a focus on python programming)
• You speak English and French or Dutch with a good practice of the other language.
