What You Can Expect

The Environmental Advisor is responsible for all operating environmental compliance, permitting and licensing requirements for renewable energy projects in the US and Canada. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing the associated costs, schedule and resources needed to ensure environmental compliance at operating renewable projects. As the Environmental Advisor, you will provide direct oversight of corporate and plant level compliance assurance management programs, policies, procedures, and processes in support of the company’s environmental strategic objectives.

 

What You Will Do:

Ensure Environmental Compliance

  • Oversee adherence to all applicable environmental and permitting requirements for projects during operations, including maintaining records of approvals, documentation sent to regulatory authorities, and audit reports

Manage Environmental Risk and Due Diligence

  • Conduct environmental risk assessments through audits and due diligence for existing facilities, and develop proactive strategies to minimize risk based on monitoring program results

Lead Environmental Management System (EMS) Activities

  • Implement and manage the company’s EMS program, including annual reviews of the North America Environmental Management System (ISO 14001-based) and Environmental Policy for Operations

Develop and Oversee Audit and Compliance Programs

  • Create and maintain the annual Environmental Compliance Audit Plan, master audit schedule, and tracking systems to monitor compliance across the fleet

Coordinate Post-Construction and Regulatory Engagement

  • Manage post-construction environmental survey requirements, communicate with State/Provincial and Federal agencies, and provide training on environmental legislation, rules, and best practices

Manage External Resources and Provide Technical Expertise

  • Scope, contract, and oversee consultants and contractors for environmental and regulatory services. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to leverage expertise and deliver technical support for existing assets

Support Reporting and Legal Interpretation

  • Prepare environmental reporting documentation for head office in Paris and provide technical advice to senior legal counsel to accurately interpret regulatory requirements

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Environmental Science/Studies required; Master’s degree or equivalent professional license is a value add, but not required
  • At least seven (7) years of operational and managerial experience in environmental compliance and business development within the energy sector, with strong project management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Deep knowledge of compliance strategies and processes for renewable energy assets, including familiarity with Tier II Reporting requirements and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plans
  • Expertise in U.S. and Canadian Federal, State/Provincial legislation, local bylaws, and policies governing renewable energy operations, emergency response, and remediation requirements
  • Experience with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan compliance (including Notices of Termination), vegetation management for large solar sites, and post-construction monitoring programs related to birds, bats, wetlands, and wildlife preservation
  • Ability to interpret complex environmental regulations, develop compliance strategies, and apply technical knowledge to ensure adherence across diverse programs and assets
  • Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, and public speaking abilities for effective interaction with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory agencies

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid in-office work policy  
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite as required to support projects
  • Must be available to travel domestically / internationally up to 30% of the time, including the need for some overnight trips
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; for the ability to drive to site locations
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • Ability to work around and with hazardous chemicals, taking all required precautions to ensure evolutions are completed safely and without injury
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces as required to complete environmental audits and due diligence tasks
  • This position consists of 30% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $99,000 – $151,800 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
