At ENGIE, we are accelerating the energy transition by harnessing the power of renewable generation. Our pumped-storage hydro stations in North Wales play a vital role in keeping the grid balanced and reliable. We need skilled, hands-on people to help us deliver that mission safely, every single day.

As a Craft Operator at Ffestiniog Power Station, you will be at the heart of our operations. Working within a small, close-knit shift team, you will maintain and operate critical power generation equipment. Your expertise will directly support energy security and grid stability across the UK.

Summary of what you will do

  • Carry out plant inspections, fault diagnosis, and breakdown repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on power station plant and equipment.
  • Operate Ffestiniog Power Station to maintain reliability, availability, and commercial performance.
  • Act as a Designated Person under FHC Safety Rules and as a Competent Person under National Grid rules.
  • Communicate with National Grid Control Centre and Dinorwig Shift Managers outside normal hours.
  • Record and report all maintenance and operational activities through the works management system and shift logs.
  • Support training and development of new team members, apprentices, and day craftspersons.

What you will bring to the role

  • Completed apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • City and Guilds Part III, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • IOSH Working Safely Certificate.
  • Significant experience maintaining and operating industrial plant, preferably within the power industry.
  • Strong fault diagnosis skills and practical engineering knowledge across mechanical or electrical disciplines.
  • Experience working within formal safe systems of work, including knowledge of PUWER and LOLER.
  • Confident communicator who thrives in a small team and adapts well to shift-based working patterns.

  • Desirable: BTEC National Certificate, FLT licence, Crane licence, or MEWP Operator's licence.

Location

Ffestiniog Power Station, Gwynedd, North Wales. This is an on-site role operating on a shift pattern.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with shift allowances and clear career progression within ENGIE Renewables.
  • A diverse range of missions, from hands-on maintenance to control room operations and emergency response.
  • Stimulating, technically challenging work in a unique pumped-storage hydro environment.
  • A friendly, supportive team culture where knowledge-sharing and collaboration are valued.
  • Ongoing training and development to maintain and grow your technical competencies.
  • Work-life balance supported through structured shift rotas and annual leave planning.
