Senior Project Developer Battery Storage (BESS) (m/f/d)

Location: Berlin (hybrid)

Job ID: 73053

ENGIE is one of the world's largest renewable energy and storage players, with more than 57 GW installed and a target of 95 GW by 2030. A key part of that growth is a major pipeline of standalone and co-located battery storage projects across Germany, and we are building the strategy to do it - which is exactly why we need you. In this role you will have real influence: shaping how ENGIE approaches the German BESS market, owning your utility-scale projects from handover to ready to build, and working alongside dedicated Grid and Technical Planning & Design teams so you can focus on what drives project value. We offer a flexible hybrid setup, direct access to senior management, and a role at the center of Germany's storage market build-out. You will report directly to the Head of Project Development Germany.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Shape ENGIE's BESS origination strategy in Germany as a senior voice on the market - from target regions and grid-access opportunities to site-selection criteria - in close partnership with our Origination team
  • Own project delivery from handover by Origination through to RtB - managing budget, schedule, risk and stakeholder alignment across your portfolio.
  • Steer the grid-access strategy and timeline for your projects in close coordination with our dedicated Grid team
  • Own the grid-cost and grid-revenue position of each project - BKZ, grid fees, reservation strategy and the FID/commissioning Dates
  • Work closely with our Technical Planning & Design team to align commercial and technical work streams
  • Drive value creation across the BESS portfolio by identifying commercial, contractual and technical solutions that improve returns and investment attractiveness
  • Act as the project-development reference point on German storage regulation (capacity market/StromVKG, MiSpeL, curtailment rules), working closely with our Regulatory Affairs Team
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional project teams, reporting progress in both English and German

Your Profile:

  • Degree in economics, finance, engineering or comparable - or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years developing or steering energy projects in Germany to construction readiness, with a track record in co-located and/or standalone BESS
  • Strong commercial literacy on the storage business case: revenue stacking, grid fees, and shared vs. dedicated connection trade-offs
  • Working knowledge of German grid-connection processes and storage permitting routes - enough to steer decisions and engage credibly with our Grid team and TSOs/DSOs, without needing to execute technical engineering yourself
  • Strong analytical skills and a track record of creative commercial and contractual problem-solving
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skills; comfortable leading without formal authority across regional teams
  • Fluent German and English (C1); willingness to travel occasionally within Germany

What We Offer You:

  • EXCITING EXTRAS: Discounts, e-bikes, services, and technology from leading providers via our ENGIE platform.
  • FAMILY AND CAREER: Up to 150 € toward childcare or preschool fees.
  • FLEXIBLE WORK: At ENGIE, you get the flexibility you need to successfully complete your tasks.
  • FREE USE OF A SERVICE VEHICLE: Need to be on the go all the time? For some jobs, it’s essential. So, having the right service or company car is a given.
  • MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR POTENTIAL: Training sessions, workshops, and continuing education—do what helps you and us grow.
