Context:

Within GEMS, the Risk Expertise Center’s purpose is to, on one hand, advise and help the Business Platforms in optimizing their activities making sure it respects all the rules and limits, and on the other hand, to manage, monitor and control the risks that GEMS is facing globally in its commercial and energy management activities.

In the context of its re-organization, the EC Risk has created new Transversal Risk functions with the general objectives to provide a sound global risk framework through the design of the global risk mandates and policies, and to harmonize and spread best practices across all GEMS local development areas.

Role:

You will report to the Head of Transversal Market Risk and as Transversal Market Risk, you will be in charge of:

 

  • Global Market Risk mandate design (encompassing GEMS MTM, GEMS S-P, Green Power, B2B Supply + Adhocs):
    • Coordination work between Market Risks to gather business needs/managerial inputs
    • Backbone of Risk Mandate architecture (definition of Risk Metrics, scopes)
    • Calibration of Global Limit proposals and Coherence check with local limits proposals – Arbitrage management – with the help of Risk Analytics;
    • Communication and Presentation for validation by Risk Committees
  • Global Market Risk Mandates Supervision:
    • Define to which team to delegate the monitoring of each mandate;
    • Manage the interaction with Group/GEMS Management/MASGO – with support of Risk Analytics;
    • Monthly reporting to Risk Committees  - with support of Risk Analytics;
  • Coordination of Market Risk topics:
    • Maintain a cartography of different “Market related” Risks across the Organization;
    • Identification of existing/diverging approaches to monitor those risks;
    • Searching for Consistency & Harmonization of metrics/approaches across geographies & GBUs
  • Coordinate the implementation of a set of Market Risk documentations, procedures, standards, trainings with the support of Risk Analytics, other MR teams and IS;

Hard skills:

  • Must have:
    • Digital mindset;
    • Financial Engineering skills with advanced knowledge in mathematical finance and Market Risk;
    • Expert understanding of energy markets;

Soft skills:

  • Must have:
    • High level of Autonomy;
    • Good oral and written Communication skills;
    • Good Cooperation skills to work with many different stakeholders;

Education and professional background:

  • You have a university degree in a quantitative field (Engineering, science, economics,…);
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the energy markets

Languages:

  • You are fluent in English

Travels:

The position is based in Brussels or Paris, with frequent travels in all locations where GEMS is implemented.
