Context:
Within GEMS, the Structured Power Origination desk is part of the new Business Platform (BP) Structuring & Origination Power. The main mission of the Structured Power Origination desk is to develop GEMS’s trading activities by developing, originating and implementing high added value structured power deals across the power value change in Europe. As ENGIE aims to taking a leading role in the worldwide energy transition, there is an increased focus on structured power deals and product development in the space of renewable energy and energy storage.
Role:
In order to remain in the forefront of ever evolving power markets, which - today more than ever - are driven by the energy transition towards a zero-carbon environment, the team needs to develop new products and tools, conduct prospection and build out a strong market intelligence.
The mission of the VIE will be (i) to support the development of these new products and tools and (ii) to assist the originators in their daily tasks (daily PnL reporting, pricings, etc.).
The mission can be split in a quantitative and a commercial part:
Quantitative part:
- Assist the originators in pricing exotic power products (clean spark/dark spread options, Asian options, virtual pumped storages and battery energy storage systems, renewable energy risk hedging products, etc.) and to improve current pricing methodologies.
- Provide support to quants and traders by conducting ad-hoc studies (correlation, volatilities, backtesting strategies, etc.).
- Develop tools to optimize and automate processes.
Commercial part:
- Conduct prospection and follow up on client interests (keep Customer Client Relationship Manager up to date, daily PnL reporting, etc.).
- Build out market intelligence (track evolutions in the CWE power markets, market players, etc.).
Your interaction network will mainly consist with quants, traders, analysts, back-office, middle-office, risk and credit departments.
Education and professional background:
- Higher education, preferably a master degree in a quantitative area (finance, engineering, mathematics,...) or alternatively an appropriate market experience.
Hard skills:
- Good knowledge of financial products (swaps, forwards, options, etc.) and option pricing is a must.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Python, knowledge in VBA and SQL is a plus.
- Experience of power markets and power asset modeling / structuring is an advantage.
Soft skills:
- Self-drivening and team player with excellent social skills able to operate in a stressful and demanding environment.
