Welcome to the pulsating heart of ENGIE's Nort Western Europe power activities, where innovation meets energy revolution! 🌐 Our Power Cluster is the epicenter of power products origination, structuring, trading, and optimization covering a dazzling array of assets: from renewables, batteries, hydro, thermal assets to our downstream customers. 

Picture this: Early 2016 marked the birth of the Energy Transition Services department (ETS) within GEM, igniting the ambition to "accelerate the energy transition through market solutions." Fast forward to today, and we are orchestrating a wind & solar portfolio that boasts a staggering 6 GW in NWE, of which 3,5 GW in Germany alone.

Now, feast your eyes on the crown jewel - the Power Markets Traineeship Program! 🚀 This exhilarating odyssey is meticulously designed to immerse you in the rhythmic heartbeat of the power markets, offering an unparalleled, hands-on experience over three dynamic rotations. Each year-long adventure unfolds across different desks within the NWE power cluster. 

Dive into the dazzling rotations featuring:

🔄 Power Plant Portfolio Management  

🔄 Quantitative Analysis Team  

🔄 Market Analysis Teams 

Role:

1.  Trading Rotation (Renewables and Asset Backed): 

  • Assist in executing trades and managing risk in various energy markets. 
  • Analyze market trends, monitor price movements, and identify trading opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with traders and analysts to develop pricing methodologies and trading strategies. 

 

2.   Renewable Power Structuring Rotation: 

  • Support the structuring team in designing and implementing innovative renewable energy products and solutions. 
  • Identify the different risks embedded in our renewable energy offerings and translate them in risk bricks that can be quantified and represented in our risk management systems. 
  • Collaborate with legal and risk management teams to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. 
  • Assist in pricing and valuation of structured energy products. 

  

3.   Structured Power Origination Rotation: 

  • Identify and evaluate potential opportunities on Structured Power products mainly focused around asset flexibility (Batteries, pump storage, CCGTs, ..). 
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to negotiate and structure contracts. 
  • Assist in executing client flow business. 
  • Assist in pricing and valuation of structured energy products. 

  

4.   Renewables Operations 

  • Ensure the right representation of Renewable Trading Power contracts in IS systems in order to provide the trading desk with the correct portfolio position and ensure the correct real-time position exposure  
  • Communicate with park owners to gather operational/technical issues and inform the most accurate information to forecaster 
  • Apply data management best practices and be the guardian of data quality 

 

5.   Power Plant Portfolio Management Rotation: 

  • Represent the physical and financial exposure of batteries, pump storages, wind, solar and other assets  
  • Monitor, analyze and report portfolio performance 
  • Design the most effective hedge products to reduce risk and maximize portfolio value. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient asset operations and maintenance. 

 

6.   Quant Rotation: 

  • Utilize quantitative models and tools to analyze market data and develop trading strategies. 
  • Conduct statistical analysis and modeling to assess market risks and optimize trading decisions. 
  • Collaborate with traders and analysts to develop and enhance quantitative models. 
  • Assist in back-testing and validating trading strategies. 

 

7.   Market Analysis Rotation: 

  • Conduct research and analysis on energy market trends, including supply and demand dynamics. 
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on the energy market. 
  • Prepare reports and presentations on market analysis for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with other teams to provide insights and recommendations based on market analysis. 

 

This is a front office role, working in a dynamic trading floor environment and in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Requirements:

Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as finance, economics, engineering, data science or mathematics. 

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team. 
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and contribute. 
  • Knowledge or interest in the energy industry and sustainability. 
  • Proficiency in relevant software and programming languages (e.g., Excel, Python, R) is a plus. 
  • Willingness to move internationally after the end of the traineeship 
  • Fluent in English, any other languages is a plus 

 

Working place:

Brussels, with occasional travels within NW Europe
