Context:
Within S&EM, the BP Power Asset Services (BP PAS) has 3 main activities across NorthWestern Europe (BE, FR, GE, NL): (i) serve the group by delivering best in class asset & risk management services for all upstream and midstream power assets, (ii) give a compliant & reliable operational market access to power assets till invoicing and iii) balance ENGIE portfolio steering coordinable assets and managing physical constraints.
APM stands for Asset Portfolio Management, which is part of BP PAS and has following mission:
“Provide a sound and digital power plant risk and contract management from the long term markets to the realized reconciliation in an ever-changing environment to internal and external clients.”
Within APM, two type of assets are currently under management:
- Conventional : Thermal & NUC
- Green : RES & BESS
The main activities of the portfolio managers are:
- Asset Representation
- Model power plants (Conventional, RES (hydro, wind and solar) & BESS) in order to provide for physical views (maintenance planning & capex), financial views (budgets, investments, accounting) and market risk views (exposure to market risk and proxy-hedging impacts) in cooperation with Quants & Trading
- Show a realistic expected value of the future revenues of these power plants (including their flexibilities and constraints). Expected profit margin - Production volume - Running hours.
- Quantify the uncertainties around this expected value and expected production.
- Client advisory on risk management
- Monitor, discuss and analyze the commodity market prices
- Advise the clients on how to reduce those risks and secure the expected market value. Propose a risk mandate and define management intentions on the future hedging actions.
- Actively take part in the different client platforms with senior management of internal clients BU R&F (Renewable & Flexible Power) and potential 3rd party clients
- Hedge execution
- Execute the hedging strategies agreed with our clients. Enter into transactions with the Trading entities of the group.
- Commodity Management
- Manage the physical capacity and stock for the power plant’s commodities (gas flex and capacity, coal, biomass, fuels, certificates, FX)
- Maintenance planning
- Optimize the maintenance planning and communicate to TSO’s and REMIT.
- Contract Management
- Represent and manage contracts that our internal clients can have with 3rd parties (industrials) or that we would have directly with 3rd parties (asset management contracts)
- P&L reporting
- Report around the financial performance of the power plants in coordination with Finance and the other operational teams. Also report on the value changes of the clients’ power plants.
- Studies
- Conduct valuation and sensitivity studies on asset related products or initiatives (e.g. (dis)investments, flex increase, maintenance shifts, combining renewable with non-renewable assets)
- Support regulatory teams in strengthening lobby arguments through analysis and expertise
Responsibilities:
As Head of Asset Portfolio Management, you will be responsible for the related Portfolio and Contract management activities within BP PAS. Key responsibilities will be:
Team Management & Leadership:
Lead and mentor the team members
Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Ensure team members are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
Engagement & Governance:
Ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the operations.
Support team members in internal stakeholder management, including clients, TSO and regulatory bodies.
Build a trustworthy relationship with Portfolio Team within S&EM and maintain strong relationship with R&F GBU “Revenues & Strategy” Team.
Financials:
Support in delivering budget targets and financial objectives for our internal clients and monitor financial performance. Prepare and present reports to senior management.
Innovation & Digitalization:
Foster digitalization of the workflow thanks to a continuous support given to data management and the use of Data Science tools.
Drive innovation within the cluster by exploring new ways to represent our assets and implement best practices.
This is a front office role, tagged as Insider, working in a dynamic trading floor environment and in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Location: Brussels, Belgium
The APM teams are located in Brussels. Travels to other European countries can be required for client meetings/events.
Education and professional background:
- 10-15 years of professional experience in the energy markets, with proven track record in portfolio management and/or structuring roles
- Master degree in quantitative discipline (engineering, economics, finance, etc.)
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, deep industry knowledge, and a strategic mindset to deliver best in class risk management services to our clients. This role requires a proactive individual who can effectively manage team performance
Languages:
- Fluent in English, proficiency in any other language is a plus (Dutch and French)
