Context:

Within GEMS, the Green Power Origination & Structuring desk is part of the Northwest Europe (NWE) power trading and origination platform operating across the full power value chain.

 

The main missions of the Green Power Origination & Structuring desk are:

  • Developing renewable power solutions that will address the needs of GEMS upstream and downstream clients (power purchase agreements (PPAs)), and ENGIE’s in-house renewable asset developer teams in NWE.
  • Developing lasting commercial relationships with renewable asset developers, expanding GEMS renewable asset portfolio under management to serve our downstream clients in their energy transition.
  • Developing flexible power solutions to support GEMS growth of its renewable power client business in NWE.

 

Role:

As a Flex Structurer your main focus will be on the German market helping to accelerate GEMS flexible power capabilities in Germany. Your key responsibilities within the team will be:

  • Design, structure and implement Flexibility Purchase Agreements (FPAs) on any type of flexible assets to support GEMS flexible power client business in Germany, with priority on BESS. In particular, as a Flex Structurer you will be accountable for the transformation of the offer concept into a product that can be transacted with the client, including contract negotiation, deal representation, risk assessment and pricing.
  • Coordinate and work closely with all relevant internal stakeholders during the deal approval process ensuring onboarding of risk teams, support functions (back office, finance,… ) and operations.
  • Prepare, present and ensure deal approval through the relevant internal committee(s) in accordance with internal governance.
  • Contribute to the development/improvement of BESS pricing methodologies and models in close collaboration with BESS trading, short term trading (algos) and quant teams, to ensure that:
    • We remain competitive when making offers to clients.
    • We extract the maximum value from the flexible assets under management and that the short term trading algos can deliver the value seen by the pricing models.
  • Contribute to the development/improvement of contract templates in close collaboration with legal and origination.
  • Support origination in negotiating FPAs, prepare and review contracts in collaboration with legal.
  • Support origination in preparing support documents required for tenders and/or client RFPs (in particular review of the analytical narratives, product and pricing proposition(s)) and participate in client visits, conferences, etc. on an ad-hoc basis, keeping track of market trends and promoting products.
  • Lead ad-hoc business cases to scale up GEMS flexible power capabilities (e.g. co-location of BESS and RES).

The growth of renewables and flexibility being inherently linked, and you being part of the Green Power Origination & Structuring desk, the job also offers the opportunity to grow into working on PPAs and/or other structured power products.

This is a front office role, working in a dynamic trading floor environment and in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Education and professional background:

  • 5-10 years of professional experience in the energy markets, with proven track record in structuring and negotiating FPAs
  • Master degree in quantitative discipline (engineering, economics, finance, etc.)

 

Hard skills:

  • Strong knowledge of the German power system and market
  • Strong analytical skills (data analysis and modelling)
  • Experience in structured power products (BESS, VPPs, tollings of flexible assets,… ) and option pricing (Greeks)
  • Experience in trading short term German power market
  • Experience in RES (e.g. PPAs) is a plus
  • Proficiency in Python or any other programming language is a plus

 

Soft skills:

  • Result-oriented hands-on approach and the ability to drive deals from start to finish (including convincing internal stakeholders and senior management)
  • Reliable, rigorous and curious
  • Stress resilient and the ability to operate in a demanding environment managing multiple deals in parallel
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with very diverse professional profiles (clients, traders, quants, originators, support functions, etc.)

 

Languages:

  • Fluent in English and German, proficiency in any other language is a plus

 

Location:

Brussels, Belgium or Germany (flexible).

 

The Green Power Origination & Structuring desk is located in Brussels from where GEMS conducts its power trading activities in Europe, hence the candidate should show willingness to frequently travel to Brussels (if not Brussels based) and Germany to liaise with the teams and support origination in client visits, conferences, etc.
