Fire Safety Team Leader

 

The working environment

 

The Fire Competence Center, which is part of the “Metiers” Department of Global Nuclear Business Area, is in charge of the following activities: 

 

  • Feasibility studies, design studies, modification studies of internal fire, explosion and flooding protection installations.
  • Internal Fire, explosion, flooding safety analysis.
  • Diagnoses and audits of Fire protection installations.
  • Modeling, design, calculations and analyses (Water & gas fire protection systems, Passive and manual active fire protection systems, fire & smokes propagation, evacuation, ventilation, internal explosion, internal flooding).
  • R&D (Research projects, integration tool development).
  • Expertise in Fire protection and detection components.
  • Operations & Maintenance support for Fire Safety equipment.
  • Design specifications, procurement, contract management.
  • Implementation & start-up of Fire Safety equipment follow-up.
  • Fire project management.

 Your function

 

As Fire Safety Team Leader, member of Metier Fire group, you will be in charge of the following activities, in close relation with the Metier Fire Group Manager, Project Managers, Fire Safety Lead Engineers, Fire Experts, other Competence Centres experts (EI&C, Nuclear Safety, Mechanical etc) and Clients (internal & external) :

 

  • Ensure the role and the responsibilities of Metier Fire Team Leader with the following activities (non-exhaustive) :
    • Report to the Metier Fire Group Manager
    • Ensure a role of Metier Fire Group Manager Deputy :
      • Administrative responsibilities, people management of a team within the Metier Fire Group
      • Assist the Metier Fire Group Manager to setup the Team (Organization, workload, recruitment, budget, development, training, team meeting, etc.)
      • Ensure a technical coordination and advisor role within his Team
      • Ensure activities development, project setup, skills increase, participate to call for tender, prospection etc.
    • Coordinate with other Team Leaders
    • Follow-up his Team Workload, deliverable list, studies and ensure budget and deadlines respect
    • Identify and communicate any gap, setup corrective actions
    • Ensure production and management quality within his Team
    • Perform a regular and individual Team member follow-up, motivate his Team members in close collaboration with Project Managers
    • Sensibilize Team members to Safety Culture and Nuclear Quality
    • Coach, give technical support, increase skills of all members of his Team
    • Be SPOC / Fire Safety Referent for a program, project or Client site

According to  his workload, Fire Safety Team Leader may have the following responsibilities :

  • Lead feasibility studies, design studies, modification studies of fire, explosion and internal flooding protection installations, following applicable regulations and standards or in house methodologies.
  • Lead Audits and diagnostic of fire, explosion and internal flooding protection installations.
  • Lead internal fire, explosion and flooding calculation and simulation studies:
    • Perform risk analysis following applicable methods and determine suitable and pragmatic recommendations that cope with the Project and Client’s objectives/constraints.
    • Perform risk analysis defining scenario and identifying assumptions, choice of the correct model, collection and implementation of the data into the model, calculations, analysis of the results, drafting the synthesis.
    • Validate the coherence between the required and existing protection/detection means.
    • Include requirements from other competence centres, project safety referential, plant safety report, insurer, codes, norms, standards and regulations.
    • Check study compliance with on-site situation (walk-downs), include the Return of Experience and draft the reports.
    • Determine and recommend suitable on site adaptations (protection/detection means).
    • Present and share analysis with the Client.
    • Ensure budget, planning and studies scope are compliant with Project and Client requirements.
  • Lead or Participate giving support to a Junior Fire Safety Engineer to equipment and services procurement, with the support of a buyer :
    • Writing technical specification.
    • Preparation of Call For Tender : Technical Requisition File, Design Review with the Client, Draft Purchase Order, sourcing strategy.
    • Launch the Call For Tenders and review of the supplier’s bids.
    • Perform the technical clarifications/bid alignment, and support the procurement stakeholders during the commercial negotiations with the suppliers.
    • Award Purchase Order.
    • Contract Management : Follow-up of the contractor’s activities including associated reporting: review studies, manufacturing in close cooperation with the quality monitoring stakeholders and with the Client, installation on site and start-up, follow-up of the payment schedule and prospective Variation Order.
    • Perform contract closure activities: Provisional Acceptance, Punch List, Contractor’s evaluation, After Action Review and Return of Experience
    • Manage interfaces and ensure an efficient communication between the different stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineer diploma (Mechanical engineer, Fire safety Engineer (Ghent), Nuclear Engineer is an asset) or High Engineering School diploma (ENSAM, ENSI Bourges, INSA Centre-Val de Loire, INSA Rouen, ENSE or equivalent), + Master 2 Fire engineering is an asset.
  • 5 - 10 years of proven experience in Fire engineering.
  • Experience in Team management is an asset.
  • Industries experience, Nuclear is an asset.
  • Capacity to assume responsibilities, to take initiative, coach/follow-up people and able to work autonomously.
  • Team player and capacity to develop personal contacts, good listener and communicator.
  • Good language skills : French and English (Dutch is an asset).
  • Good computer and data process skills.
  • Ability to draft reports, technical papers and synthesis documents.
  • Inquiring and critical mind, dynamic, rigorous, pragmatic, team-player.
