Job Description – HVAC Technicians (G1 & G3)

Reporting To: Supervisor / Engineer
Location: Yas Island
Job Purpose:
Responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of HVAC systems across Yas Island. These include chilled water systems, DX units, FCUs, AHUs, exhaust systems, ductwork, dampers, thermostats, and split systems. Technicians are expected to ensure thermal comfort, system efficiency, and full compliance with HSE and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC assets (FCUs, AHUs, PACs, DX units).
- Inspect and service duct systems, insulation, dampers, and filters.
- Diagnose refrigerant leaks, motor or compressor failures, and sensor faults.
- Carry out routine inspection of VAVs, actuators, and valves.
- Record and maintain HVAC readings (pressure, temperature, refrigerant levels).
- Support energy optimization through timely filter replacements and airflow checks.
- Respond to complaints related to temperature imbalance or unit breakdowns.
- Coordinate shutdown/startup of units during scheduled maintenance.
- Maintain indoor air quality by servicing exhaust and ventilation fans.
- Adhere to safety procedures while handling pressurized gas and electrical connections.

Skills Required:
- HVAC diagnostics and repair skills across all major system types.
- Proficient in use of HVAC tools, gauges, recovery systems, and meters.
- Knowledge of chilled water and DX systems.
- Familiarity with HVAC controls, actuators, and thermostats.
- Clear understanding of refrigerant gas safety and IAQ standards.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Trade Certificate in HVAC/Mechanical Systems.
- Certifications in Refrigerant Handling, F-Gas, and Electrical Safety.
- For G1: EPA/Cooling Gas Handling or equivalent regional certification.
Health & Safety:
- Comply with HVAC-specific RAMS and refrigerant handling protocols.
- Always use PPE and avoid confined space entry without a permit.
- Report near misses, hazards, and refrigerant leaks to the Supervisor.
Authority Matrix:
- G1: Authorized to lead maintenance activities and sign off HVAC reports.
- G3: Works under supervision with no independent authority.
